Nah - a new movie based on the same property as previously made movie doesn't necessarily mean it's a remake.

For instance, say there was a new movie version of The Hound of the Baskervilles on the way - that doesn't mean it is a remake of the 1939 version starring Basil Rathbone.

As much as I love Werner Herzog, this made me throw up in my mouth:

Nicolas Cage is The Bad Lieutenant
Source: Variety
May 13, 2008

Nicolas Cage will star in an updated version of 1992's The Bad Lieutenant with Werner Herzog directing, Edward R. Pressman producing and Avi Lerner's Nu Image/Millenium Films financing, reports Variety.

The original film, also produced by Pressman, starred Harvey Keitel and was directed by Abel Ferrara from a screenplay by Ferrara and Zoe Lund. That film received an NC-17 rating with the depraved title character heavily involved in drugs, gambling, sex and stealing while a New York police officer.

Ok... first off, Bad Lieutenant is a cult classic from 1992... 1992!!! Seriously, its barley a decade old and they are remaking it, replacing the wonderful and iconic Harvey Keitel with... Nicholas Cage... Werner Herzog must be having finance trouble or something. WHY, WERNER, WHY

Huh? what? Why haven't I heard about that before? Sounds like it will suck as much as The Legend of Zorro did. [I still can't believe Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman were given Star Trek...]

This.....could be a BAD idea. Zorro's the last character I'd picture(or want for that matter) in a futuristic setting.

when i was in the 8th grade i drew a lot of pictures of Zorro in a futuristic setting, on an airbike/rocket type deal, along with a light saber (of course, it was 1978). i suppose i should have been paying attention to my algebra teacher instead. i liked the idea then, but i was 13. i liked the Phantom 2040 cartoon quite a bit, though, so it could work.

The old school feminist horror flick and one of the most controversial movies ever made, I Spit on Your Grave is gonna be remade next.

I Spit On Your Grave to Be Remade
Source:Variety
June 4, 2008

You read that right, boys and girls. CineTel Films have picked up the rights to the controversial 1978 rape-revenge film I Spit On Your Grave from the original's writer-director Meir Zarchi.

Initially titled Day of the Woman, Zarchi's film starred Camille Keaton as a young woman who heads to a remote cabin to write her first novel. Four hicks come a-callin' and soon they rape her, beat her and leave her for dead. Later she seeks revenge on every one of her sick suitors.

According to Variety, the update will be produced by CineTel prexy-CEO Paul Hertzberg and Lisa Hansen, with Jeff Klein, Alan Ostroff, Gary Needle and Zarchi as exec producers. A theatrical release is in the cards.

"After seeing what was done with an R rating on films like Saw and Hostel, we think we can modernize this story, be competitive with what this marketplace expects and not have to aim for an NC-17 or X rating," Hertzberg tells the trade.

Seriously, when will this crap end?
