I just came back form the midnight screening...and daaaaaang, was it PACKED.
Now, just a little background on me n' Speed: I grew up watching its' spanish-dubbed counterpart "Meteoro" and managed to, over the years, watch all of its itinerations, including the underappreciated "X/Millenium".
Now, I went in there expecting a live action anime. No lie, I did. I had my expectations set on that much. I mean, if Frank Millir's black n' white graphic novels can be brought to life, why can't an anime? What's stopping Hollywood from showing the japanese how a translation's REALLY done(
yes, I'm lookin' at you, "Tetsujin 28").
To my surprise......This movie kicked ass. Not just normal ass, I mean
super-heavy-fat-thug ass!

The movie's a visual tour-de-force I'm, sure any true anime lover will enjoy, and the style brought forth on screen is DEEP. The movie looks like Wachowskis actually thought everything out and just drew it up on a blank canvas as they went, only stopping to double-check their details to the source material.
There're nods to each series left and right - like the aforementioned Mach 6 design from Speed Racer X, and the visuals straight out of the original series; the movie places you in a world where that sort of stuff
is real, and that's what counts.
I smiled. Last time I smiled like that was in TMNT during the fanale nod to the past movies. I had a blast. It felt great, and the last time I felt this great at the movies was last week with Iron Man.
I'm not gonna go and say, "Go see it, it's awesome!" 'cause I know it doesn't work that way 'round here. I'll put it bluntly - if you don't feel like going to see it, you're just not gonna. period. This movie's fun and all, but if it's not your thing, it just isn't.
....it
is the hot nu $#!t, though.
