I just found this GDT quote from an article on Collider from this past summer (Comic-Con I believe).

While I respect GDT's decision to avoid 3D, however, his movies tend to limp at the box office and WB/Legendary did give him $200 million to do whatever he wanted. WB needs to take over now and start advertising/decision making for this movie, because nobody outside of internet forums knows what that movie is. It has a big chance of tanking.

I WANT to see more big budget Del Toro movies, so if that means they have to do novelty bullcrap like that 3D and appeal to children to insure he makes more movies like that, let them do it.

3D is worthless unless it is in IMax 3D. And even IMax 3D hurts my eyes and gives me a head ache.

I'll take 4K projection 2D over any 3D technology any day.
