Ditto. This has been a GREAT year for movies. I haven't caught everything, as usual, but every single film I've paid to see at the theaters has been good, very good, or frickin' awesome. Not a single turkey in the bunch, and that's a rare thing nowadays. I'd rather have quality over quantity. I can only pray that every sumer season would have tentpole/blockbuster/franchise films throughout that have as much care and class as this summer's have. Cap2, Godzilla, Apes, Guardians... who'd a thunk it???

This year has had more films that I immediately enjoy and want to watch multiple times in a theater more than the last few (Lego Movie, Cap2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians). Very enjoyable summer at the movies.

As to some of the recent comments:

Thanos was probably my favorite thing villain-wise in the movie. I think they're setting him up nicely to be awesome in this universe. Karen Gillan gave a pretty terrible performance as Nebula and I thought Ronan kinda sucked. Kinda a lot, in fact. He's just another generic villain in this MCU which, aside from Loki (and maybe Thanos and possibly Ultron given what people have said about some of the Con Avengers 2 footage) is just filled to the gills with generic, one-pump-chump villains who have generic evil plots involving using some magical macguffin to do something generically evil for generically evil reasons. He and Malekith are so similar, that if I weren't into movies as much as I am, I probably wouldn't even be able to differentiate them.
Gills.

i could not disagree with you more on Thanos, Nebula and Ronan, so much so that it seems like we saw different movies.

I thought Thanos seemed completely passively generic evil. Ronan was a zealot, which is something i found refreshing compared to "i need more power" motivation most of the Marvel villains have

I see a lot of comparisons to Malekith, but I felt like I got a better sense as to who Ronan was. I think some of that is that he seemed to feature more in the film and didn't speak in a made up language most of the time.

Thanos and his motivation isn't really generic (unless they screw it up), although I admit there's nothing in the film to depict that.

It's difficult to over criticize or over praise anything Thanos right now. It's all just hints and whispers right now...I'm digging it, because they're actually building something and so even if Thanos only features heavily in one film, it'll at least not FEEL like he's a one-and-done afterthought villain. But if the payoff isn't good, then honestly, it's all for naught and the villainship of a movie like this (and probably Avengers, hoenstly) gets even weaker.

Ronan was pretty middle of the road. Looked like a reject from a black metal band, and even though he's at least given motivation (unlike Maleketh in Thor 2), he's still pretty vanilla compared to everyone else in the film (from the main cast to supporting characters like Yondu, all of whom were so unique and interesting)

Ronan was underwritten compared to the other characters, but he had a great look and voice, general presence - he left an impression.

I also really liked Nebula. Hope she returns.

I could have done without Thanos, but maybe I'll think differently if he impresses in further films... but that's kinda the rub: I hope further GotG films stand on their own without being direct setups for the next Avengers or whatever.

Just as long as it's the Guardians encroaching on the Avengers territory and not the other way around I'm fine with it.

Its been more or less confirmed that the Guardians WILL meet the Avengers at some point, and I'd expect that to be Avengers 3. I think GOTG will definitely be setting Thanos up to be the big bad in Avengers 3.

There wasn't enough of Nebula to make an impression on me one way or the other, but I really enjoyed Ronan. He had some cool background and gave off a Darth Vader-ish vibe to Thanos' Emporer. Conversely, Malekith was a total blank for me as a bad guy and one of the biggest letdowns about Thor 2. Lame villain almost always equals lame story/conflict.

Ronan was also such a beautiful translation from his comicbook self. Seemed literally almost ripped right from the pages. Nice. And like any good villain, I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of him. Not by a long shot. I'd be very surprised if it turned out otherwise.

Seeing this film again this weekend. Just cannot wait for it to hit Blu-ray shelves so I can grab a copy and watch it over & over in the comfort of my own home. THis film may even top AVENGERS as my favorite "comfort food" film. Maybe. LOL.

I kind of hope Avengers 3 is that May 2019 film.
Mostly because I wish the phases were longer so that when we do have Infinity Guantlet, it's just as tremendous and epic as it was in comics.

Between the network shows, the Netflix series, the constant blockbusters, DC's bumbling, and the occasional Fox release i would expect that the superhero market is going to get so over saturated that it will start to dry up long before we get to 2019... and if we do get to Avengers 3, i think it will be the DAM of super hero movies.

So I finally saw Guardians yesterday. Not that I intended to miss it, just a matter of being really busy these past few weeks. Anyway, it was fun, I enjoyed it. Probably not as much as most people here, but it will definitely be added to my home media library along with the other Marvel Universe films.

What I really wanted to express though was something that has just has me boggled. Watching the film I saw MANY similarities between Guardians, and another much maligned film, Green Lantern. Both were about a quirky hero out of place in the Universe, and filled to the brim with gems (no pun intended) about each films respective comic universe (DC and Marvel), that would go over the heads of the general movie going audience, but were enjoyed by the hardcore fans.

I just drew so many parallels from each film. Both had serious action sequences, but had plenty of humorous moments.Sure there were obvious differences such as the fact that while Green Lantern had about half the film on earth,Guardians was entirely set on alien worlds save the opening sequence. For the record I know Green Lantern is not a great film, but can think of a dozen comic-based films that are worse just off the top of my head. I guess my general question is...why was Green Lantern hated, and Guardians widely praised? -intelligent well-thought out opinions are appreciated. Thank you
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Guardians actually embracing the cosmic nature of the property is a big part, I'm sure.
Also not being boring/being a lot of fun to watch.

I don't hate Green Lantern, but I sure as hell don't care if I ever watch it again.
