That's a fundamental misunderstanding of Gandalf's character and purpose. Anybody who has a problem with divine intervention as a concept is going to dislike Gandalf.

My problems with Azog, as I said before, come from the changes in backstory made in order to have him alive in this movie as the main Orc villain. I don't much agree with the changes.

Radagast, while certainly a bit silly, is handled well. I don't think he should have had direct contact with the dwarves and Bilbo, but it didn't really alter the story in any way. I loved being able to finally see an interpretation of the character since we got so little from Tolkien.

EDIT: Oh, on that dwarves issue, I understand the complaint. I disliked the stereotyping too. However, that's the easiest way to give them character when they didn't have any in the book. Many of the dwarves are in the book in name only and we learn little about them.

The Azog thing doesn't make sense because it could have easily just have been Bolg, since he plays a part in the battle of the five armies. Hell, I think it may have been more effective to have made Fimbul or what's his face, who is the Warg pack leader be the final confrontation at the trees. I also think the Goblin King deserved more time to be somewhat threatening, albeit briefly, and maybe his whole revelation of "there's a price on your head" could have been made more interesting if we didn't know Azog/ or Bolg (which would make more sense) was hunting them.

I dunno. I still liked the film a lot, and unfortunately won't be able to see the 48fps. I'm really interested in it.

Oh, and was it just me or did Goblin Town/Goblins in general reek of Del Toro's influence?

I rather enjoyed the quirky character of Radagast. I thought the rabbit sleigh was entertaining as well...but I do agree that the bird poop was a bit gross. I laughed, but the more I saw it the less funny it became.
I'm not sure how anyone can say he didn't serve a purpose though, since he's the one who brought attention to the Necromancer.
