Yeah, the article says they asked for a 50/50 co-financing deal not a 50/50 profit split. And I wouldn’t give up hope yet, this may just be negotiating tactics at this point. I doubt either side has really thrown in the towel.

This whole thing is interesting I have a feeling there's more at play here then what's being said. We know Sony Pictures isn't the most profitable studio around anymore in fact Spider-Man is there only profitable franchise; Resident Evil was once a good money maker for Sony but after each film it started losing profits. After the news that Spidey was leaving the MCU Sony's stoke dropped quite a bit. There's quite a few fans that have already stated they aren't seeing another rebooted Spider-Man movie which is what Sony is going to have to do regardless if they still have Tom Holland on or not because they won't be able to reference past MCU events.
I'm guessing Disney is just playing the waiting game for Sony Pictures to have to sell and regardless of who they sell to the Spider-Man rights revert back to Marvel/Sony. So Sony is pretty much in a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. Disney should just offer to buy the Spider-Man license back from Sony and give them a royalty deal too something like 10% of merch and ticket sales for 15 years.

I hope Sony re-establishes Spider-Man's working class bona fides and backs off on the billionaire 'tech bro' angle Marvel has been pushing for the character in these last couple of movies.

So I'm convinced that this whole Sony/Disney split is nothing more than one big publicity stunt with each new report be it from reputable sources or not makes it seem more crazy than the last.
These are the things I've heard not sure 100% how much some of these are true or not.
-We heard Sony was the one that backed out shortly after the news broke that they split up.
-A few days after that Sony says it was Marvel that cut ties with Sony
-We've heard Marvel wanted to do a 50/50 split, while that report was wrong and it was something like 40/60
-I've heard Sony wanted to sell the full license for 10 Billion
-I've heard Sony came up with a new deal for 30% for both Spider-Man and Venom
-Then today I've heard that Sony is thinking about selling to Apple which if they do then the Spider-Man license would revert back to Disney/Marvel and not carry over to Apple.
Plus god knows how many other stories have come out in the wake of this split.

Its actually a two movie deal. One solo and one more team up movie. There's rumors reporting that Venom might be part of the deal as well. I would be down with that if they some how retconned the solo Venom movie to be part of the multiverse.
Also there's strong rumors that Apple may be buying Sony and if that's the case then all the Marvel characters will revert back to Disney so they wouldn't have to strike another new deal when this deal runs out.
