Well, it's certainly clear Jackson loves the source material and wanted to pay it the highest possible respects, but it ultimately seems like TOO much of a good thing. Every single scene designed as being a showstopper is just wearying. (Anyone notice that Rick Baker is one of the biplane pilots at the climax? I only knew after hearing the commentary...)

The story of King Kong does not need over 3+ hours to be told. I get that this was Jackson's love letter to the original film, but someone should have been brave enough to tell him to back up a little and tighten things just a bit.

<---wonders if the "Clash" remake is SO unmemorable that we REALLY are sitting here talking about King King instead

At the same time, it makes me question anyone who automatically says that Godzilla is in good hands simply because it's Legendary Pictures making this movie. I haven't seen COTT but it sounds obvious that they're just as capable of screwing up as anyone else is.

Just to throw my two cents in on Clash of the Titans, I saw it last night and was not impressed. It really surprised me to see THREE screenwriters credited at the end, since the whole thing basically felt like a barebones story treatment padded out with a lot of special effects. I didn't find myself rooting for or against anyone in the movie. All the characters were pretty much just...there. No emotional gravity and nothing that really piqued my interest.

While I'm not too crazy about the original film, at least the effects were clearly the product of a lot of hard work and excellent craftsmanship. This picture, effects and all, just seems to have come off of an assembly line. Very unfortunate.
