I don't think Thor even knew that the infinity stone was in it. He wanted to take it back because it belonged to Asgard and is the only remnant he has of his brother (who he believes to be dead). Also, from the way it seemed at the end of DW, Thor doesn't even know Sif and the others gave the Aether to the Collector by the way they were acting in that scene.

I'm not saying it is well written in all parts, but it is fun, has great dialog, excellent comedy, character development, but most of all, it does the characters right.

If you really think Tony would give up being Iron Man than you are foolish. He is too egotistical for that.

I thought Ultron was great the way he was. He was evil. He was doing it that way because he was manipulating people and seeing the world in his own perception. That is what evil is, a perception, and Ultron served that quite well.

I think the problems you have with the movie is because in all honesty, Phase 2 only exists because it needed to be for Phase 3 to exist. Hell, technically, Phase 2 should end with Infinity War Part 2, since the Infinity Stones has been the main plot since the first one ended.

Secondly, you are going in with way too high expectations, and rightly so. I knew that with as many movies as they have, not every movie is going to end up great. Hell, Iron man 3 and Thor 2 were bad because they couldn't live up to Avengers. Now that I have rewatched IM3 and DW, I like them a lot more, IM3 moreso than DW, but still. However, after Winter Soldier, which I believe is Marvel's The Dark Knight, I decided they will never be able to top that movie for years, so I need to stop expecting them to do so. As such, as long as I enjoy the story and the characters, I am okay with it not topping it. I'm also happy it is getting closer to when I get to see my favorite Marvel villain finally take the spotlight.

Now here are the things I definitely feel were not that good in Avengers 2 (I'm seeing it again in about 3 hours, so that may change):

SPOILERS

The opening just feels weird as if the movie started in the middle of the story. When did they find out about Strucker? Not to mention they already killed him off and completed the Hydra storyline from Winter Solder like nothing. That was lame as it kind of diminishes the OMG factor from Winter Soldier.

The team is separate all around the floating city but then is suddenly together at the church.

Tony finds Jarvis off screen. Also, there is suddenly a woman helping him after Vision is created without any introduction.

Dr Cho doesn't even have an introduction either. She just shows up and we are supposed to know who she is.

Killing Quicksilver. Okay this is a comic book movie and no one ever truly dies in the comics, but still, I wanted him to say because I like him better than the dude from DoFP.

Well I definitely enjoyed myself. AOU certainly has more meat on its bones than the first film, which I appreciated very much considering how, despite how entertaining, by the numbers the first film was. Really looking forward to Civil War and Infinity War 1&2.

Saw it again this morning and most of the things I had an issue with last night were gone. I also noticed some stuff I did not catch initially, such as Tony booting up FRIDAY. The only things I did not like still included the Hulkbuster fight and that they Count Dooku'd Strucker. Still an 8/10.

I thought it was good, though not nearly as great as the first movie.

There's been this debate regarding Ultron. I guess I fall in between. Interesting character, but I felt at times, there was just a certain generic-ness to him. And this was not as dark as I feared (and for which some were salivating for).

I have to agree though with Jelly on certain points, especially in regards to that build-up, or lack off from the previous stand alone features. Would have loved it if someone like Stark would have given us an opening narration, explaining and leading up to those beginning events.

I honestly think most of this is just a build up to Civil War, and really the rest of the MCU films are all aiming toward Infinity War.

I really enjoyed James Spader's performance as Ultron, and his dialogue...I just wish his motivations were a little more clear. Upon my initial viewing, they just seemed kind of all over the place. He's programmed to keep peace, then he decides the Avengers aren't up to the task (or something..?) and he doesn't like Tony Stark because...he's a killer? Then his plan somehow morphs into human evolution into biorganic beings...and then he decides he'll just turn Sovakia into a meteor to kill all humans so he can populate Earth with intelligent robots. I mean...I get that he's supposed to be kind of crazy, but I just wish we had more insight into how his plans evolved, what the common thread was that linked all his ideas. It just seemed to me that he was just following generic sci-fi tropes about artificial intelligence because that's what the movie needed him to do, and that's what AI villains tend to do in these kind of movies.

I saw it as Ultron learning and realizing that humans are Earth's biggest problem, but to get rid of them, he has to get rid of the Avengers. Remember, one of the first things he saw was the entire history of humanity and war ala The Fifth Element. It drove him crazy. That is one of the reasons he is my favorite movie villain to date, his motivations were never clear.

I just got back from seeing this and I thought it was good. It wasn't as good as what I thought it was going to be but it was till good. To me it seems they where focusing more on the future than they where the present. Almost all the Easter Eggs where for future films, Civil War, Black Panther, Thor 3 and Infinity Wars Pt 1 and Pt 2.

That being said things I enjoyed about the film where how each Avenger got their own personal hell thanks to Scarlet Witch, the Hulkbuster scene was pretty good and Ultron was just a bad ass villian. Almost like an evil Tony Stark.

This movie is exactly what I expected (and what it should be) - tons of fun. The opening 5 minutes were nuts. The hulkbuster scene was hilarious. There were enough laughs and character build up throughout that the movie never felt overlong or bloated despite being 2 hours and 19 minutes.

8/10

Tom Hiddleston got cut out of this movie. Should we start a whiny petition to make Whedon put him back in?

It just goes to show that Whedon isn't a fan of the genre

A few things Jelly.

In regards to the Pepper/Extermis thing Tony tells her that he nearly cracked it years ago half in the bag and that he'd be able to fix her up. and I think the ending narration during the heart surgery furthers that idea, I think. Something like "I had her fixed in a few months" or whatever. Just like the "Tony retired at the end of IM3" misconception, this is another aspect quickly fixed with a few lines before the credits that people tend to forget about.
