Hopefully, I'll be seeing AVPR this weekend, as I still haven't. I have a feeling I'll enjoy it though. So far I've loved each and every movie in the Alien and Predator franchises. Yes, even Resurrection! It's not the direction I would have liked the series to take (but I blame Alien 3 for that), but it was wonderfully done. I was already a fan of the director since seeing City of Lost Children, so I thought the visuals were amazing.
I loved Alien 3 as well, which seems to be another b*stard child in the series for a lot of fans. Wonderful acting and loaded with emotion...and a weirdly beautiful way for Ripley to die while destroying the Alien threat at the same time. My only gripes were the fact that EVERYONE from the previous film died, making Aliens seem moot. Why watch and be thrilled for over two hours only to see everyone who survived get killed during the opening scens of the next film??? My only other problem was how they never really explained how the alien egg go onboard the ship in the first place...and apparently there were two eggs? Major plot hole, but I suppose you can just imagine something to fill it in.
So I figure if I can love these two movies (as well as AVP) just as much as the first two, then I will probably still enjoy AVP-R.
