Okay, after this insanely high praise the first round of critics are giving I think I'm gonna go cold turkey on this movie until I see it: no reviews, no clips, try to avoid trailers and TV spots.

..... aaaand GDT has just won the Gold Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The enormous groundswell of praise this movie is getting is amazing.

Well "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". First off, it looks like the movie's been delayed. Secondly, we just got the new trailer before Mother and they have pretty much ruined the entire movie for me. God damn I hate this inane ability to NOT spoil a movie with its trailers.

^ It was just pushed back a few weeks so that it'll be squarely in Oscar season. Sorry you didn't bring your blindfold and earmuffs to the theater!

Crimson Peak should have been sold as a period romance with thriller elements aimed primarily a female audience. I think it would've been best if the ghosts and gore were a surprise.

Colossal was not advertised as a kaiju movie. What ads did you see?

Arggghhhh.... seems like I'll be waiting two more weeks to see the film: it's a rollout, with NYC this weekend, ten or so more of the big cities the following, a dozen plus more big cities the weekend after that, and then finally nationwide on the 22nd of December.



Hmmmm... or I could drive a couple of hours to Nashville to see it a week early? I'm probably gonna be swamped with Christmas stuff, though...

Well, it gives me more time to do my GDT rewatch (I'll try to get to Devil's Backbone tonight).

So if you see something in ads for a couple seconds, you assume it’s a whole movie about that one thing?

Sorry man. I didn’t even pay super close attention to Colossal’s advertising and coulda told you it had a monster in it, but wasn’t ABOUT the monster. It was advertised as an offbeat comedy though...which it definitely wasn’t.

Urrrgggghhhh... not coming to any of my local theaters this weekend. The staggered releases of these prestige films kills me. Currently, two of my theaters are still playing Three Billboards, another Fox Searchlight film, that took about a month and a week from it's technical 'release date' to making it down here.

If it's not here by New Year's weekend I may take a trip to Nashville to see it.

^ It's rough living in the South and trying to catch obscure releases on the big screen. I'd have to drive an hour to see The Disaster Artist or The Greatest Showman at the nearest Regal theater and they currently have no plans to get The Shape of Water. Meanwhile, the only theater in my town has already stopped showing Justice League and Coco on their four screens.

Definitely check out Three Billboards if you haven't yet. It's excellent.

^I mean, we're a big enough town that we have The Disaster Artist, Three Billboards, and Lady Bird all playing right now. I'm sure it will get here... it's a matter of when.
