I'm calling it now the untitled Avengers 4 is gong to be called Avengers: Secret Wars

so what is the death count going to be in part one i wonder.

Notably absent from the poster: Black Widow, Ant-Man, Wong, Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

Man...I think that's the first movie poster I've ever seen in Widescreen . They'll probably have to have a whole section up above for all the celebrity names, cant imagine they'd do it on the poster itself or it'd cover the whole dang thing.

The contrast in reactions IS rather amusing; and all the more telling how important it is to spend the time getting audiences invested in the characters beforehand.

What’s funny is among my friends, the reaction leaned a LITTLE more towards the general reaction to Justice League. We were all like “Oh. Okay.”
None of us thinks it looks BAD or anything but just that it’s one of those movies that’s going to be a completely known quantity and the trailer does nothing to further the opinion of anyone who already knew the movie was coming. It’s a lot like the first Star Wars teaser that just flashed some iconic imagery at your face and called it a day.

I think Justice League’s issue might have been as simple as iconography. Of the three heroes we actually know, only two were in any trailers, and they focused the marketing pretty heavily on Aquaman, an image we’ve never seen. You can get people pumped about the image of a TIE or lightsaber or Iron Man with zero context because they member that image from something else they like, but asking people to pump their fists when they see Aqua-abs crackin wise ain’t gonna happen because we don’t member him.

As Jelly says, it really is fascinating to look at the reaction in terms of parallels and divergences in the marketing. It's interesting to compare it to previous Marvel movies too. This trailer is almost spookily reminiscent of the first Age of Ultron trailer, especially in the kind of dialogue it utilises from the villain. I'm expecting that deja vu factor to continue into the full movie, though Infinity War will no doubt benefit from being the pay-off that the MCU has been building towards, and not needing to spend half its runtime foreshadowing another movie (as AoU did). While I anticipate that Infinity War will be better than AoU, I think the Avengers sub-series already reached its dramatic peak in Civil War (which was the best Avengers movie in all but title). That movie dripped with personal conflict between its characters, and sent them on some fascinating development arcs. By comparison, simply making The Big Bad stronger or more numerous doesn't carry the same dramatic potential. This is especially the case in superhero stories, where death is as serious as the common cold, and lasts about as long.

As someone who enjoys both the Marvel and DC movie universes, I want Infinity War to be everything we'd hope from a decade of build-up. But if it's going to live up to that, Thanos will need to threaten the Avengers with something other than just being punched to death.

I don't think we have to worry considering it is being done by the Russos. They are two for two so far in the MCU.
