... or should I go with the Funko Pop! versions of the Universal Monsters instead?

The only downside: no Invisible Man.

I picked up the Rocketeer Re-Action figure at my local comic shop recently. I knew about the Alien figures they did and had heard they were going to do more licenses but had no idea what those licenses were going to be. I was quite surprised to find this guy on the shelf.

Now, I am admittedly a very big Rocketeer fan. But I've got to say, this guy is way way more fun than he has any right to be. After years of collecting modern super duper articulated 3 3/4 inch Star Wars and Indiana Jones figures (which I still love and enjoy posing), I didn't realize just how much modern articulation can get in the way of pure playability. You spend so much time getting all the limbs and joints where and how you want them and then you don't dare breath on it for fear of losing the pose you worked so hard for.

Sure, the retro-nostolgia aspect is appealing, but the truth is, this is just a plain great action figure to actually PLAY with. My eight year old self would've spent hours and hours sending this guy through one treacherous adventure after another.

I'm quite looking forward to the universal monsters re-action figures. I might not get all of them but the Creature and the Wolfman are definately on the radar.

TL;DR - go for the Re-action figures. They're awesome and tons of fun!

The problem I'm seeing with the Funko ReAction versions of the Uni Monsters is that the quality of the figures look like they really vary: The Wolf Man, The Creature, and The Invisible Man look great; Dracula and The Mummy look fair; but The Monster and the Bride (the most important) look poor to my eyes.

... also, I really want the Funko Pop versions of Robby the Robot and the Lost in Space Robot.

^I completely agree. I still find the English version of Dracula to be a middling film...and it falls well below Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and Creature from the Black Lagoon (and quite a few others like Son of Frankenstein, and various sequels of some of the films, including Son of Dracula).

However, the Spanish version really only has sexiness and better direction in its favor. The performances of the English version are far superior.

I'm a huge Uni monster fan but I'm a little dubious about this project (mostly because of who is involved).

Now, if they can fold this series under the Legendary banner....and maybe get GDT on board as a producer, THEN I'd be much more optimistic.

But, in terms of good news....there's always this!

I find the whole shared universe thing irritating so if del Toro ever gets to Frankenstein I hope it's its own thing not worried about tying into anything else. It needs to be the ultimate adaptation of that novel, basically what Kenneth Branagh's film should have been.

I don't know how I feel about a Victorian era Creature film either, that character is way more tied to 1950s sci-fi to me and that kind of pseudoscience. I mean, it bothered me when The Wolfman remake was set in 1891. At least novels like Dracula, Frankenstein and Invisible Man have ties to those time periods. Original works like The Mummy, Wolf Man and Creature are closer to when they were made (30s to the 50s).

Just ordered Uni's big Univeral Monsters DVD megaset. The MSRP is way to high for a non-HD product, but amazon has it on sale for $92 (or 56% off) which seems the right price to me... basically a price where I won't be upset to double dip on the inevitable Frankenstein Blu set in a year or two.

Haven't seen Dracula's Daughter, any of the Invisible Man sequels, She Wolf of London, The Creature Walks Among Us, Phantom of the Opera '40, or any of the Abbot and Costello movies (sans, Meet Frankenstein, naturally).

One thing I never saw until a couple years ago was this scene. I had read about it but never thought it was re-inserted in to the movie.
I had never seen it till a few years ago. I loved all the Universal Movies but this thread reminded me of that scene.

Next month I get to see Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D at my local Alamo Drafthouse. Not only that, but they are also having Julia Adams attend and she will be signing autographs.
