Yes, the comics (ignoring the early pre-Robin run) were really silly, as were the Superman comics at the time, including the over-the-top "Red Kryptonite" stories, which allowed writers to play around with the character. Even Batman became some giant Bat-costumed King Kong monster, who a tearful Batwoman had to try to tame before turning him back to normal! They'll offer plenty of giggles, but they were, and are (to me), still very enjoyable.
It got even better with the addition of Yvonne Craig's Batgirl, who I admit I have had a, er, thing for, even back then!
What do I think of The Dark Knight? I can't say it's the best Batman film ever, but I liked it, and may consider it, in a way, to be the Ben-Hur of Batman movies (due to its epic scale; it's even got a chariot, er, motorcycle chase!). I went to see the movie for Batman, whereas 75% of the rest of the human race saw it for the late Heath Ledger (out of hype over his passing), which sort of fills me with dismay. But who cares what they think? It's become the 2nd highest-grossing movie ever!
But for me, Adam West is still where it's at!
