Temjin, you're missing the point: sure, Keanu is a decent actor. I do think he gets unfairly judged because of things like the two Bill and Ted movies (which I am a fan of - especially the first) and Point Break, but he is COMPLETELY WRONG FOR THE PART!

The Day The Earth Stood Still is one of my mother's favorite movies, and I've watched it several times myself. We both think that its a bad idea to do a remake but that Ralph Fiennes would be a much better choice for Klaatu, and I also think that Liam Neeson would work if they wanted to go in that direction.

Keanu would be a fine choice for a part in a remake of This Island Earth or Forbidden Planet, but not The Day The Earth Stood Still.

(And the Samuel L. Jackson comparison doesn't work, because Samuel L. Jackson has always been a fine actor, even as a character actor. A lot of good actors have been character actors or started out that way)

I shudder to think what a clusterf the casting of the upcoming G.I. Joe movie will be.....

They're going to remake The Day The Earth Stood Still? Wow...that's like trying to remake Psycho, or something. Halloween, perhaps. Oh wait.....nevermind.

Yeah, Hollywood is sucking the big one lately. It's just a bunch of rich quacks, strung out on coke', thinking they're royalty, or something. So yeah, why not remake classic films that were made by people who actually cared about the form as not just a source of entertainment, but one of artistic expression.

Needless to say, I'm not much of a fan of "New Hollywood," although, to be fair, there are a few poeple in the business that deserve respect for doing some great work (Scorsese, DiCaprio, Denzel, Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott, just to name a few).
