I just read from either USA today or some other news paper that the tow movies will be released seperately on DVD, that kinda makes me mad considering that both movies I felt worked well together.

It opened on Easter weekend.

Is there really much more to be said? Anyone should have known it'd open to those numbers on EASTER WEEKEND.

The film might not have any more legs, because the trailers have disappeared from television here in San Francisco... Last week, there was a trailer every commercial break! Although Rosario Dawson was on Jimmy Kimmel last night with a clip from DEATH PROOF to milk the PR a bit. I hope something works...

I've noticed the same. I have seen the commercial for it maybe twice since Friday and it seems all buzz beyond that has kinda just died off.

It has a good chance to bounce back this weekend, mainly because its a poor crop of films that are coming out this Friday.

REDLINE (a crappy Fast and the Furious ripoff)
SLOW BURN (a crappy looking crime film, featuring LL Cool J as a gangster!)
DISTURBIA (a teenie bopper flick)
PERFECT STRANGER (Halle Berry E-Mails Bruce Willis. Nuff said!)
PATHFINDER (a cool looking film, but one that won't appeal to a large crowd).

So lets hope it can bounce back. It's gotten great reviews. It got a certified FRESH rating on www.rottentomatoes.com. It scored an 8.2/10

Also I think I read somewhere that they are releasing it seperately overseas. Therefore the International audience will have to pay double what North American moviegoers paid, if they want to see both films. This will definately pad its overseas haul.

Saw it. Liked it....and thought it was the single most extreme movie I've ever seen in my entire filmgoing experience. Seriously. It's SO in-your-face, it literaly feels like a rollercoaster. I liked Planet Terror moreso than Death Proof, but thought both movies were awesome in their own right. Gotta love 'em.

Kurt Russell was at his coolest, even if he was the bad guy, and that ending was freakin' wierd and crazy at the same time...but it was comin' a mile a minute.

Well I finally saw Grindhouse tonight. I'll spare the long review,
because I am positive there is nothing that i could say that some of you
haven't already said better.

But, I will say this...

My interest in her had cooled off over the years, but now I remember why
I really wants me some Rose McGowen. YUMMY.

That and surprisingly, I think I like Tarantino's more legitimate film a
bit more than Rodriguez's Black Farce. However, I did like both "movies"
quite a bit. I just thought casting Kurt Russell in a Cameron Mitchel
style role and doing a 1 part death stalker type movie/1 part Chick
Revenge Flick was brilliant. My roomate got really bored with the first
15 minutes of Tarantino's movie, but I told him to wait and it would
pay-off big and I was right.

Plus, in my opinion, Tarantino "GOT" the whole grindhouse thing more
than Rodriguez did. He did a movie that would have been at home on 42nd
Street Circa 1976. Rodriguez did a punk-style Gore film more likely to
turn up on video in the early 80's. He effectively did a big budget
Return of the Living Dead. Was it good? sure. Was it as "true" as
Tarantino's? no.

Anyway, a mini-review from me. I loved it and would definitely go to see
a sequel, especially if they make use of some of their "trailers".

Weinstein is a jackass. Splitting these movies up defeats the whole idea that QT and RR came up with in the first place. They are even saying when they come out separatley, the missing reels will be put back in. Gee, way to ruin a great gag, guys.

What makes me worried even more is they are saying for the DVD release, the missing reels will be put back in, the movies will be separate, and the movies will looke more "cleaned up"

So the movie flopped, big deal. I'm not surprised. Most people would rather watch another crappy Will Ferrel comedy or another lame CGI cartoon than a double feature of 70s style exploitation films. They are gonna make up for it in DVD sales no matter what they do anyway, so I say just leave it as is.

I'm at least hoping for a DVD that includes them as a double feature and with the same edits of both films that came out in theaters.

Weinstein sounds determined to ruin the whole project and destroy what made it fun in the first place... all because it performed less than he expected... what a baby. It hasn't even been out for a week and he's flipping out. Just leave things as they are. Word of mouth and DVD sales will make things better. :x
