If they make Blade PG-13 can it even be Blade? I need him to say the F word every other line in between cutting dudes in half.

The thing that irks me is that, from what I've heard, Sony didn't even attempt to negotiate. Marvel asked to split production cost 50/50 and Sony flat out said no. They didn't try to ask for a slice of the merchandising, they didn't try to shift it 60/40, or anything. The sheer arrogance of it. Venom was a fluke and Homecoming/Far From Home was a success because of Marvel Studios. The only good Spider-man movie they've done themselves since Spider-man 2 was Spider-Verse, and I fear they'll try to meddle in its sequel to its detriment.

Sure I miss Uncle Ben and would love a Spider-man movie that was just a tad bit removed from all the Avengers malarkey. Peter barely had any time not being an Avenger and Far From Home seems like he was g being groomed to replace Stark in the MCU. I guess that just means they might bring in pre-strechy Reed Richards before the F4 movie. But I honestly have lost all faith in Sony creating in a good Spider-man movie. And if Ghostbusters 3 doesn't work out I'll have lost all faith they can make a good movie in general. Yes, I know, Spider'Verse but that's the exception to the rule and I don't think they'll have the restraint not to meddle with it to its detriment. Remember Tom "Make Galactus a Cloud" Rothman is a bigwig at Sony now.

Frankly, I'm just happy to see Disney getting something taken away from it.

however the IP of Spider-Man in all forms except in Movies is still owned by Marvel/Disney. They can just begin to cancel his animated series, take his image off all merchandise, releagate Spider-Man comics into near non-existence.

...and if you think...*Disney would never do that*, they DID do that with the F4 and X-Men. Inhumans was all but set up to be the replacement X-Men in the MCU and all forms of other media. Sure it ultimately didn't work, but basically it's caused X-Men to not have any good stories in the comics since 2013 (unless something has happened in the last 12 months, I haven't been keeping up). and since then, there's only been ONE good X-Men movie that FOX produced IMHO (DofP).

Things may not be as bad for Sony, since they have a good foundation starting with MCU Spider-Man, even if they are breaking away from it. But any future movies better be pretty darn good, because mark my words, by 2021, you wont see Spider-Man anywhere outside of Sony's films. (No Video games, no T-shirts, backpacks, the current animated series *which is awful btw* will have finished its run no doubt), Marvel may keep one comic, just so they can still claim it, but it'll probably be relegated to the lowest common denominator of writer/artist at Marvel Comics.

I've been thinking a lot about the whole Spider-man ordeal as of late. Technically Marvel/Disney can still keep Spidey in the MCU by making a TV show on Disney Plus or some other network because Sony's license only expands to film and not television. So I'm guessing Disney is just waiting for Holland's film contract to end then they'll work on a show for Disney Plus or something. Tom probably has a stipulation in his contract where he can't do a TV show.

I'm looking forward to the variety of more female-led Marvel properties. In particular, the stand-alone Black Widow movie is a decade overdue; it's ridiculous that it's taken this long.

My only concern is with the execution, since the MCU has a history of being ham-fisted with its handling of female characters. Remember how Iron Man II treated it as a plot twist that Scarlet Johannson could be both beautiful and good in a fight? Or how the first Avengers movie made it a twist that she was actually in control of a situation...and pulled the same trick twice? Or that cringeworthy, "Look at how many female characters we have" scene in Endgame?

And then you have Captain Marvel, where they were so nervous of their first female headliner coming across as underpowered that they shot to the opposite end of the spectrum and made it so no one could give her a challenge by the end, robbing that movie's climax of all tension. The way Endgame handled Captain Marvel made it clear that the MCU has accidentally become Watchmen, a world of vigilantes on steroids, which is broken by the arrival of a superhero with god-like powers, and with both stories using the same depressing solution: send that over-powered character to the other end of the galaxy.

I worry that Marvel will look at the billion-dollar success of Captain Marvel and learn the wrong lessons. I worry for a slate of shows and movies devoid of drama, where female heroes steamroller the opposition without having to struggle or sacrifice like their male counterparts. The MCU has previous with this kind of problem, as shown by the last seven years of them awkwardly bolting Whedon-style humour into almost every movie since their first Avengers payday.

By all means, put female heroes in the spotlight. But please do them justice.

I think it's kind of weird that they're making Ms. Marvel as a TV show instead of on the film side of it because she's surely one of their most prominent new characters, but then I read about how the shows and movies will be more closely linked and how she'll definitely show up in the movie sooner rather than later... so I suppose that makes sense? She can have a season or two of her own show and then turn up as the co-star in the next Captain Marvel movie or as one of the main character in, like, a Young Avengers movie or something?
