I'm thinking this may be legal stuff being sorted out. Perhaps if MST3K is being brought back the new writers and performers won't have the same crap deal in terms of royalties.

I saw on Rifftrax website that they are now offering some MST3K episodes. -I guess the obvious question is.... will these only be the Mike hosted episodes? Logic says yes... but who knows.

My dream... for MST3K...would be this

"If" the two sides could put aside all their differences and hurt feelings/egos/whatever

Joel, Trace, Elvis, Frank, Mary, Mike, Bill, and Kevin all in a darkened theater, recreating the MST3K set, watching Gamera- Super Monster.

Am I the only one who feels that - if a new MST3K doesn't AT LEAST include Crow, Tom and EITHER Mike or Joel - it's not really MST3K?

If Mike doesn't want to come back, I could see a changing of the guard of the human. And I'm assuming Joel wouldn't want to reprise his role since he gave it up so many years ago.

But you do also have to think about the fact that they are all older men. I could see them moving more behind the scenes, maybe making cameo appearances but still being apart of the writing pool, while having some fresh faces/voices take over. That said, the bots should be Tom and Crow.

I'd be fine with not only a new host, but new wisecracking sidekicks -- at least one 'bot made from spare parts, and maybe a puppet alien. And maybe new writers if the old ones have other projects. But as long as it has Joel's okay, I'm all for it.

Well it has potential. Rifftrax was able to successfully crowd fund productions into existence, so we will see. I know campaigns like this sometimes start strong and then taper off, but so far so good. in just a few hours, they have exceeded 10% of their initial goal. Honestly, I hope they do get the 5.5 Million, (as opposed to just the 2 million) I'd love to see 12 new episodes.

Also I find it a bit humorous since just this past Sunday The Simpsons satirized crowd funding, probably one of the more amusing bits of social commentary they have done in several years. But yeah, I'd rather support this, than just some shmoe asking for money.

I almost think that if they're going with a new host and bot voices that maybe they should do new bots. That way you don't have people trying to be Kevin/Bill/Tracey they'd be doing their own thing and you could have the old crew pop up in a cameo.

^I disagree. Tom, Crow, and Gypsy all had voice/puppeteer changes during the course of the show. I had always assumed (as Joel has laid out now) that if the show had continued indefinitely that occasionally one of the robots voices would change and, of course, the host would change - that it would operate a bit like Doctor Who; where certain characters and the basic premise would be persevered even with total cast turnover.

^The new Mad may have just kidnapped the bots and had them refurbished (hence the new voices).

Choosing shout titles makes sense, also I like the idea of older films. I'd love for them to do the showa Gamera films they didn't do previously. But in any case, shout has a nice collection of older sci-fi films to choose from
