Cloverfield - aka 1-18-08 (here come the SPOILERS)

Okay, so I let my slow-ass computer download the trailer and I just watched it, finally!

...Yah, I'm impressed. I figured I'd be let down, but the trailer's got me pumped, it's scary as hell, and that roar! Doesn't sound anything like G'84... it actually sounds like the Jolly Green Giant horking a jolly green loogie, but in the context of the ad it sounds creepy as hell. If I were at that party and heard that, I'd be the first one to be curled up in the basement clutching a security blanket.

[EDIT]: I only watched the beginning of that loser's video, but yah, that's definitely the girl's hair lit up by a lamppost or something, and not some monster. Aww.

When I first saw the trailer, the two movies that came to mind were "Armageddon" and "Godzilla". The style of the ad was very much like that of G98 (by not revealing the attacker) and Armageddon (people dodging debris falling from the sky) but was more effective in displaying some very good acting in how people would react in this type of situation (shades of "Gamera III") Abrams' track record has been very good thusfar in film and television and there's a good chance that he KNOWS how to make these genres work and what makes them tick. I can't wait for his turn at STAR TREK. Mr. Nimoy gives the script a "thumbs up" in which he has a part in the film. Mr. Shatner does not.

Why do people bother to decipher that image, anyway? The 1-18-08 site has been arranged so that new pictures are added as the days go by, eventually leading to new pictures of unseen things, like maybe the creature itswelf and later moments like the aftermath of the attack.

That image shows two horrified women looking at what appears to be the creature above them or looming in the distance.

Gorgo's a Brit? Wow.....guess the U.S. REALLY hasn't gone past King Kong.....

There's absolutely NOTHING there, so quit it people. Please.

Not to diminish Lovecraft's work but just going by the various designs I have seen of Cthulhu, I really hope this is not the creature in the movie, but at the very least, hope we get somthing new. I just saw Davy Jones in the last 2 Pirates' movies and that's enough for me.

Odd considering how bright the image is, and it is 12:48 am. 12 minutes from the picture with the girls and 47 minutes from the first picture. Definitely seems alien-ish to me if there is that much light at night piercing through smoke.

I forgot, if you mess with the contrast, or tilt your monitor in a certain direction, the left side of the image shows a possible fire in the background. Probably should of mentioned that. Someone on IMDB figured that out.



Not like that has any significance. Just pointing out things in the picture.


And for the times, I think they don't really serve a purpose except make us guess what is happening between the times. I don't think the marketing is that intense they created a puzzle like that. I think the trailer unexpectedly became HUGE so they are just putting up random stuff to make people go crazy. However guessing what happens between images seems fun enough to me. I'm sure we will have to piece together a story with them. =)
