Overwhelming. Not quite as good as HB2 because of the wonderful characters that film had, but that's the only of GDT's 'popcorn' films that surpasses it. The film's story is lean and to the point - tight like the best of the old Toho films; when something's introduced it has a payoff, leave you wanting more instead of overplaying any one thing. The human story is direct and facilitates the action, but (also like an old Toho film) charming actors are used wisely to make what could be uninteresting roles likable.

The monsters and robots are wonderful in motion. Just sublime. The action sequences are thrilling and have a structure to them that's easy to follow. There are a few gasp inducing moments that I don't want to spoil.

Theater - one of five showtimes this Thursday night, had about 40 people in it (just checked reserved showtimes for the 10 pm: 55 people).
