I was gonna reply to this (I even wrote out a big response), but I honestly don't think we should have these debates until we see a good quality picture. This blurry, face only picture just isn't cutting it for me... its just a preview pic. I'll get into this conversation when I see a full body, full color picture of Ledger as the Joker.

From what I see, I do like it though... we need something fresh and scary from the Joker. But I won't get into how much it does or does not resemble a certain incarnation of the Joker until I get that nice, full body, full color pic. I want a picture where his eyes are perfectly visible, and where you get to see more of the smile the way it is on the sides... not to mention how his hair is being done up (from what I know it will be the classic receding hair line Joker hair from the early days). And just for the record, I don't see anything "Crow" or Kakihara about this... the Crow had black around his eyes, but for all we know, the Joker in the movie may not even have that (this is just a blurry, early teaser picture... you can't even see his eyes). And Kakihara had his mouth slit and it made his mouth wider. Ledger's Joker only has scaring around his lips and cheeks.

Jett from BOF wrote a nice editorial that I think sums up my feelings nicley.

Looks to be a mix between the original Joker...

And Bermejo's Joker...

Ah good. I knew there was some incarnation of a cut up face out there. Such a take looks much more interesting. I like where this is going.

^ You might want to try proving your point without using one of the worst pieces of Poser comic art ever that deserved to be retconned from conception. The story wasn't horrible, but I think even Morrison would agree that the art was a "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" travesty. I guarentee his look will be back to normal by the time Morrison's run ends. And besides...you honestly want THAT as the Joker in TDK? I dunno, man

They should've based the look of the Joker off of Ross' art. Sinister and creepy looking, but still readily identifiable as THE JOKER. I think fans would have been universally happy with something like this:

I think everybody is almost forgetting this image from a month ago:

He looks about ten times better in that pic than on that website. And considering the context of that pic, I'd say it's much more representative of what we'll actually be seeing in the movie.

I've always been partial to the "cover-up-the-moustache" look. Without it, I'll never buy into Heath Ledger as The Joker.

hate?

Postby Xenorama » Mon May 21, 2007 3:22 pm

odd, though i didn't think BEGINS was the "best Batman ever" (since it isn't) i didn't hate it. there was a lot to like about it, but just as much to dislike (felt the same way about THE FANTASTIC FOUR). all i said about this movie was that Batman being the cause of the Joker being the Joker... lame and weak and not original at all, nor close to his origin in the comic book. not a thing about liking or disliking the movie.

am i surprised people think i wouldn't like it? i'm shocked of course!

when i was a kid and noticed Romero's covered up moustache, it bothered me- but when i read his reasons for not shaving it, i admired the actor's intergrity about keeping it.

if the fight scenes are .5 times better than the BEGINS it's already a better movie.

David
