Um, TheMaster...apparently you suffer from a condition where you take other people's words and twist them to fit your own agenda, thus probably making you feel better about yourself. I was not saying that that any movie, especially this one, should act as a primary teacher of moral lessons. Entertainment can infact, not solely entertain however. This is why we tell our children fairy tales and stories...because they act as entertaining ways to convey what our society deems as important or right. So while I'm not saying any film should be a primary source of morality for anyone...or that films should seek to teach first and entertain secondly...I am saying that a film in which the lead character at least offers to help his enemy while also stating the logic of helping an downed foe, if only for a second, can hardly be seen as a bad thing, and for some, it may even be a little refreshing. I'm sure some of you will poke fun here because of what happens next in the film, but thats why it's entertainment first and foremost.

Also ryuuseipro....nicely written review.

Saw it loved it. Not a trek fan by any means but this movie was great. My only disappointment is no Shatner and how they made his character be anything like Shatner (excluding the scene where Kirk passes the test).

Saw it (first movie ive seen in theaters in 2009) this weekend

Loved it...it was absolutely STUNNING visually. It was just so PLEASING to look at, that's the best word to use...

the story was pretty good, not being super big into Trek and having been like 3 years since I last watched a bunch of the movies and such, I got a touch confused by the Romulans (sp?) and Vulcans...and I think it coulda been a bigger source of confusion for people following along less closely (since the Romulans and the Vulcans look so similar) but it was actually perfect plotwise (IMHO) where you had to follow along but it was also a good popcorn flick

also, PERFECT balance of funny/quirky and serious...very much UNLIKE Godzilla ('98) or Transformers which tried to be funny and goofy and snarky throughout the entire movie and as a result the lines that are ACTUALLY funny fall flat, in this movie, the intentionally funny was balance perfectly by the serious story

also, Simon Pegg as Scotty was AMAZING and since I hadn't been REALLY following the buzz around this movie too much, it was a nice surprise

Two extremely minor complaints (well one a touch less minor than the other)
most minor complaint: I thought they coulda had shatner in it for a mega-quick cameo, right at the end when old spock says "full throttle" or whatever the line is, i thought he and shatner coulda walked away together...

somewhat less minor complaint: didn't like John Cho...couldn't stop thinking "white castle" whenever I saw him...

^I agree, although I did like that Old Spock stayed in this new timeline (how would he have gotten back anyway?).

Yes...played overlapping as Pine-Kirk becomes Capt. ...a kind of montage if you will....coulda worked...but..the older actors are just distracting in the new verse for me...I don't need Jack Nicholson popping up in the Dark Knight to enjoy Heath's preformance...

It baffles me that some people see nothing wrong about stating that they watch bootlegs....
