Personally, I'd think adapting a work, without copying it or altering it beyond recognition is a Herculean task...

If you stay too close to source material, it fails because what's the point?
If you stray too far, then why even brand it as "X"?

It's really hard to strike that balance, and I'd much rather just create something original than try adapt another person's work.

In a recent interview GDT said he's still working on his DC 'Dark Universe' movie which will star Swamp Thing, Etrigan, Deadman, and others!

The idea of this JLA thing being mired in development hell, GDT's film going through, and having those characters become DC's most famous just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
