Watched this with my friend who is an illustrator for Marvel I have to say, I was very pleased with this movie and even more so than Thor. I really enjoyed the movie as a whole.

Well, on the tail of Thor, this movie performed quite admirably. The story itself and characters were given far better treatment than in Thor and the movie went at a nice even pace nearly throughout... except for my one major gripe with it.

There is a TON of build-up to Captain America actually donning the final uniform and vibranium shield, but then it felt like all of those big action scenes were truncated at the end. It basically turned into what amounted to a clip-show of highlights other than the big, final confrontation with Hydra... and then the last fight with Red Skull ends up being only a couple minutes long and ends on a major anti-climax (which is understandable setting up the Cosmic Cube for The Avengers, but doesn't serve this movie well at all). You get the feeling the whole movie that these guys are just gonna pummel each other and I doubt they shared more than a couple dozen punches in the entire movie. Lame. Hugo Weaving was AMAZING in the role though...

The cast in general was excellent. Chris did admirably as Captain America and I liked the character more in this movie than in the past. I'm admittedly not a big fan of the comic books and character, but this did a great job of setting it up and the time period of it was executed to such a degree that I was well immersed and able to appreciate all of the time we're given with no Captain America on the screen (which is over half the movie it feels like).

I still give this movie high recommendations and it sets up The Avengers very well along with its 2011 sister film, Thor. I get the feeling Captain America will be one of the focuses of that film, along with Thor, so you'd be stupid to skip out of this if you plan on fully enjoying The Avengers. I get the feeling Red Skull might make another appearance, or we might see The Winter Soldier, so you'll want to know the background here!

I just got back.

Wait... what's this? A good Joe Johnston movie? OH MY GOD ITS A GOOD JOE JOHNSTON MOVIE!

So yes, I really liked this movie. I eat crow with whatever reservations I had in the past. Evans and Weaving were great. Hailey Atwell has big boobs. Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci were um... Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci (not in a bad way).

I did find it a bit more dull than Iron Man, Hulk and Thor, but that's only because I've always kinda thought Cap was a dull character (and this movie really didn't do much to change my opinion). It was a good movie though, its just that this character and his story were never all that interesting to me. Although its probably just as good of a movie as Thor, I prefer Thor just because that had a story that really sucked me in, whereas this one didn't grab me as much.

One thing this did WAY better than Thor was the love interest stuff. By making it more of a just beginning, blossoming romance, and making it take more of a backseat to the story, it makes it have so much more meaning when it SPOILER ultimately fails.

My only two big complaints are: I never could get used to that damn CG'd head on the skinny body. Its like they made sure his body was small, but didn't make the head to scale with it so his head just looks huge and weird.

And my biggest complaint is the treatment of Bucky. He's just some... guy in this movie, and he doesn't serve a big enough purpose as Bucky should (and what ends up happening to him is kinda bullsh*t for that particular character).

Still, a very good movie. Highly recommended.

I wasn't as impressed with this movie as I was expecting. I guess the first X-men movie really set the bar too high for me because it showed that you CAN add drama to these types of movies without being cheesy about. Cheesy is what sums up Captain America for me. The dialog, the horrid music, the 'splosions-behind-a-jumping-hero scenes, bad guys carrying big toy light up guns, a cackling villain, no plot twist nor deception nor strategy, and a super smart professor using baby words like "It makes bad even worse and good even better".
The movie took place mostly in the 40's and during WWII, that's just an open invite to do something amazing with the style of the cinemaphotography, like in band of brothers.
But it's just a straight action film. Nothing innovative here. Die Hard did a better job in the 80's.
Signatures are stupid and annoying.

I felt like it wasn't that cheesy. In fact I found most of the acting to be less cringeworthy than First Class. It might also help that I expected a total travesty
