I know a guy that was in the Navy when they shot stuff for this film down South. Part of his job was prepping Flight gear including the parachutes and stuff like that. He was very familiar with all the gear and uniforms and stuff like that. From what he told me the Department of Defense chose not to be a part of the film, but my friend was allowed to be an unofficial Navy consultant. He was there assisting the Wardrobe and Props departments. He has some very cool stories to tell. He saw all the props including the rings and lanterns. One including a scene when that he helped Ryan Reynelds get through a scene. they asked his advice on how to shoot it and he ended up behind the camera looking at the monitor and giving some direction to Ryan Reynelds while being ejected from a plane. He saw all the stars and also has a walk on Role along with his wife. He got to see Scarlet as well. My friend and his wife are both Fans and are into Props and costumes a lot, like myself, so the whole experience was amazing for them besides just being there at all. From what he has told me, this movie will be pretty darn good.

I'm just not sure about the tone they're going for. Remember when they were going to make that Jack Black GL movie, and everyone freaked out and pointed out that GL shouldn't be a comedy. Reynolds seems like he's doing his usual funny guy thing and he even has a wacky friend. I just think it looks a little more campy than it needs to be. It feels like DC and LP are like "Hey, remember Iron Man? Lets make that movie with Green Lantern instead." Why aren't they just going for the current tone of the book? You know, the book that most people agree is the best superhero book going right now? I think the tone should stick a little closer to something like Singer's X-Men movies than something like Iron Man, which borders on comedy at points.

I'm not even saying I disliked the trailer. A lot of stuff in there looks great, but I can't jump on the fanboy wagon JUST yet due to a couple concerns.

Looked pretty awesome to me - far more interesting than any other American superhero movie these days (it's not a genre I'm a huge fan of).

To quote myself from twitchfilm:

I like the freebootin' Hal Jordon characterization that was brought across in The Final Frontier, but I think this mistakes that attitude for a more Seth Rogan / Will Farrell dumbass approach which is too bad.

The effects look weird to me. They don't seem very well composited into the overall image. The green is too green and shiny. His domino mask creates this ridiculous optical illusion of crushing his temples in towards his nose. His body looks less like a human and more like a Todd McFarlane toy.

Of course this is an impression of a trailer and Marketing people suck. So it's possible (once the effects hopefully get another pass) the movie won't be as cheesy looking as the trailer.
