Variety magazine has a number of articles on Pacific Rim up on their website today. They're all pretty good. One is an excerpt from the up-coming "Making of...." book, another deals with marketing and advertising (something I know a few of us have been concerned with), and one on the SFX and the 3D conversion. Plus a few image galleries.

Also early review for the "Making of..." book PACIFIC RIM: MAN, MACHINES AND MONSTERS. Apparently it will contain a number of memorabilia pieces similar to the TRANSFORMERS VAULT book that came out back in 2011.

The marketing article was particularity interesting and relevant to this thread, what with all the armchair box office analysts in the house.

It also directly addresses something we were just discussing:

I don't think the uber-hype will start until after Man of Steel is released, either.

Think about it...from my point of view, I hadn't seen hardly a single Man of Steel ad or anything...until right around when Star Trek came out.

Star Trek: didn't see or hear anything until after Iron Man 3.

These big blockbusters don't like to step on each other's toes. Most people's attention spans are too short to remember that Pacific Rim is still going to be coming out later on if they see an ad for it now and then see Man of Steel...they'll wonder whatever happened to that Transformers-looking movie.

To this day, I still think MOST of the people on these boards give the average moviegoer FAR too much credit. These people are morons. Why do you think movies like Transformers make a billion dollars while Dredd can't even recoup its budget? Morons (not you guys...the average movie goer).

New featurette, showing the sets used for the Jaeger cockpits. Very awesome video.

Ya know for a while the size of the cockpits was a turn off for me. But this video really sells it well. It's like with each bit of footage or news, my little mecha fan pet peeves are vanquished.
