I'm curious as to why Hasbro wanted to do a movie based on Battleship as any movie based on a boardgame is going to be a challenge to adapt. (First and foremost is getting people to give the movie half a chance rather than scoffing at the idea)
Hasbro would have been better off this year if they focused on adapting one of their other properties. I'll bet many of you already have a good idea which property I'm thinking of too. That's right M.A.S.K -- it seems so perfect, so ripe for a live action movie adaptation that one has to wonder why Hasbro would pass up M.A.S.K. to make a movie based on just about any of their other properties (outside of G.I. Joe and Transformers).
Although even if Hasbro had done a M.A.S.K. movie rather than Battleship they would still be in the same situation with the new G.I. Joe movie. Although I expect Hasbro would have been looking at a more profitable year between a M.A.S.K. movie and toys.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
