) where something can bomb this big domestically and still create a franchise.

As soon as he said he didn't know it was based on a book & then started making fun of the name Helium, I just couldn't watch anymore...

He asks "Helium, really? Couldn't you [implying the filmmakers] think of a better name?" No, dummy, they couldn't. Because that's the name ERB gave it in 1912. I hate critics like that who start making snarky comments about things they clearly know nothing about. Yes, Mr. Guy with the Glasses, you SHOULD have taken your own advice & done a little research before reviewing the film. That's what good critics do so they can make accurate critiques about the subject instead of sounding like smug, ignorant d-bags.

Just got back from seeing the movie. It rides the line between very good and great, never settling on either side. It's a solid adaptation of a pulp classic, and well worth seeing if you're in the mood for a swash-buckling adventure. The way that Disney's marketing department has failed this movie is a tragedy.

Yeah, I checked it out, and found it to be..okay. It's a shame it's not better, but there it is. My biggest problem with the film was the whole "IM ON MARS SO IMA GONNA JUMP HIGH" thing. Sometimes (almost always with CG creatures) Carter demonstrated that super human strength, but with human beings it was barely noticeable if it was going on.

Then, there's also my displeasure that the red martians are just tan people.

Other than that I found it to be a fine film, it's just not great, and it certainly isn't terrible.
