I think this was explained earlier abotu the possible link between "Tagruato" and the creature:
Tagruato Corp digs underground for the mysterious "deep sea nectar" that is said to be in Slusho, which is also said to have "delicious, happiness-enhancing" properties.
The drilling may have woken up the collossus from a deep sea bed located near present-day New York. Our "hero",
Rob Hawkins, just happens to work for Tagruato and his on his way to Japan when the attack happens.
That leaves the "expanding woman" from the trailer - wha does she have to do witht he collossus? Survey says:
not a dam thing.
These "parasites" or belly bursters are said to come from the deep sea nectar harvested for Slusho, meaning it's highly possible that, aside from being grouchy from being woken up by heavy machinery, the collossus came to New York FOR the parasites....which could be an allusion to Godzilla's daily rampages in Japan whenever there's a new monster on his turf.
It'd be interesting if there's a sequel and a fully grown king or queen parasite fights our kaiju......
Now, some interesting bits:
when you scramble the word "TAGRUATO", you get the word "TORTUGA" which is spanish for "Turtle", which had many speculating this was a Gamera movie.
Also, it's funny how a nuclear squid can cause so much damage in that joke of a movie. They should've at least had a maquette or a suit creature, a bipedal one, and shot footage of that.
I'm actually in the process of proving how real you could film somethng like that with a simple camera, home-made green screen, and the Adobe family. I hope I can get it done this year, because after seeign that preview of "Monster", it's inspired me to theatrically kick Asylum's ass.
