We just got home from The Dark Knight Rises and I have some mixed feelings on it. it was very good, but also a little bit of a let down. Even though I went in knowing it would most likely not be as good as TDK, I still could not help but be slightly disappointed. The movie is great nonetheless, the action scenes were good, the music was great, some of the one liners were hilarious, but the entire structure of the movie tried to be bigger than TDK, which is where it failed a bit. Tom Hardy does an incredible Bane though, and some of the twists are unexpected, while others were obvious, but overall, it was a good movie. I would not say it is better than The Avengers, but it is on the same level as Prometheus. Oh, and there is nothing after or during the credits, so no need to stay if you do not want to.

Just got back from the movie itself...

...if it had taken 25-30 minutes to get started instead of 45-55, it would have been perfect. The movie feels like it has about 3 or 4 false-starts before it figures out where everything is going and what it all means and what exactly is happening before it really hits the ground running.
Almost like Nolan left every idea for how the movie COULD start out there for us all to see instead of figuring out the best way it SHOULD start...basically, that's my only major complaint here. The rest would be minor gripes, but I'll save those for a few weeks/months until most if not all of us have seen it and we can have a more spoilery discussion.

Ultimately a great film. Not fantastic like The Dark Knight, but I think better than Batman Begins, personally.
