For me, these movies have provided a great yin to the Nolan Batman's yang. Nolan's films are taken a bit more seriously and provide great for great dramatic action films. The Iron Man films are freewheeling and fun, but still have the necessary focus on performances and characters. Two different approaches for comic book films, but the two that work best. IMO, these are the best superhero franchises that have come out of the last decade. Lets hope both series' can keep up the great work.

The one I have the least amount of hope for is Captain America. Its got weird casting and its the only Marvel Universe film that doesn't have a strong director behind it. Joe Johnston + Chris Evans = uhhhhh. Lets hope I'm wrong.

Fun and fancy free is fine and all but I just didn't think Iron Man was all that GOOD

perhaps it does merit another watching though to make sure...

Apparently Jon Favreau had the same problems with IM2 that I did (about the shoehorned Avengers stuff). Too bad he probably won't do IM3 now.

I didn't have a problem with any of the Avengers setup stuff in Iron Man 2. Before I saw it, I'd heard people say things like "It's basically a two-hour commercial for The Avengers," but once I saw the film I didn't see what the big deal was. It all felt secondary to the film's main plot and certainly didn't take up very much screentime, and when it was the focus, it didn't feel unwelcome or out-of-place to me.

But in hindsight, the first Iron Man was definitely much better.

It bothers me because he hired a hack screen writer and came up with a pretty lousy idea in the first place for a story...blaming it on the lack of time is exusable to a point but there are literally hundreds of better story lines that could have been used (some even in the comics) and he had a lot of people to draw from...you don't always get ideal conditions to make a movie, in fact, you never do unless you are Chris Nolan or James Cameron...whining about it and blaming it as the reason your movie fails on every level is just lazy...own up to your mistake ya know...

And yes..I think they should have just embraced the movie as an Avengers prequel and just have gone crazy with the Marvel universe stuff..

And I guess as of your last point...I think Marvel has been pretty up front about their grand vision all along which is why it bothers me that Favreau is acting as if they pulled a fast one on him...like dude we all knew it was going to go down like this....you didnt even have to take the film really, but don't act like it was surprise...you took the job knowing what was in store and then b*tched about it afterwords

The Avengers stuff is really going to pay off big when the other movies start coming out. Besides,it would be silly not to have it-being an Avenger is a large part of who Iron Man is. Same goes for Thor and Cap.
