Interesting. I just read the original 3 Bourne books (fantastic btw!!) & while I know there are more out there by another author, but the Ludlum trilogy completes the character's arc & I wasn't really interested in what someone else had to write about him (not to mention the 3rd book ends with him in his 50's married with a wife & kids...)

I'm now rewatching the movies, which are also really good but SO drastically different from the books! I actually kind of like it that way as, unlike in so many cases where the movie is different from the book in ways that make it less good, in this series both the books & movies are really good, but they're so different that it's like you get two different versions of the same character. Kind of like how there's so many different incarnations of Robin Hood, many of which are really good in and of themseleves, no matter how different they might be from one another, yet they still share some of the same key things that make them Robin Hood.

Anyway, not sure how I feel about this new movie, but I like the attitude they're taking towards it. Here's hoping it turns out as good as the first three.

I just read the original three books & subsequently rewatched the Bourne trilogy, and I could actually see this really working. Think of it like a spinoff tv series (like Frasier is to Cheers). Except, instead of taking familiar (less significant) characters & putting them in a new place or situation, they're taking the situation/events left from the first three films & showing how they affect new characters in the same universe.

While I don't think any new films are necessary, the films do leave off with the CIA (& congress) in upheaval over the revelation of the secret assassin organization that was even killing US civilians and the unbridaled power they had by not having to follow a chain of command to determine when lethal force was actually necessary. I could see them developing a very interesting film or series based on the "good guys" trying to finally shut it down for once & for all while those involved (especially the assassins themselves) try to survive/cope/evolve/escape.

Jeremy Renner is the new bourne-esque character:

I like Renner. He's a good choice... though I'm still unsure about the necessity of this project.
