Doctor Who Series Four Discussion (spoilers)

Postby Robert Saint John » Fri Nov 16, 2007 6:15 pm

With the CiN "Time Crash" special just aired and the Christmas special "Voyage of the Damned" around the corner, probably a good time to start the Series Four thread.

As I posted at the end of the last thread, here's at least one place online you can find "Time Crash", but it may get pulled within hours.

Eight minutes of Steven Moffat brilliance and nostalgia (well, for old guys like me for whom Peter Davison was Doctor in their teen years!).

I don't think I ever bothered to mention it in the Series Three thread, but I finally got my own chance to check out - and really enjoy, I must say - Doctor Who a couple of months ago, leaving me really interested in watching more. Just figured that it had to be the final two-parter that I watched!

Already grabbed this using the All-in-One Bookmarklet, watched it, and even though I know jack and squat about the older series, my only prior experience watching was one particularly unpleasant and boring B&W episode, and I'm pretty sure I'd never seen anything with Moffat, those were some damn entertaining eight minutes.

I am definitely looking forward to following this series once it starts, while I work on catching up to what I missed earlier.

Only Steven Moffat could take 8 minutes and make such a wonderful and fulfilling multi-Doctor story! Really, it blew away my expectations, craming so much good stuff in those few minutes.

Although their episode was by far not one of my favorites for this new series I loved the fact that the Fifth Doctor refences LINDA. Making the past Doctor aware of something we knew nothing about until the current series really enforces the feeling that this isn't a new show but just season... what is it, 30? 31?

BTW- What's everyone think of the new Sontarans? Are they getting the first 2-parter?

Sontaran pics: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/sontarans/

See, he looks just like he did in The Young Ones! ;)

I believe there will be 2 or 3 Sontarans in this new episode. This is only General Staal.

One time I was on the can at this pizza joint in the middle of Missouri and in pencil, in a nice cursive script, someone had written: Best wishes, Alan Hale, Jr. That was one of those make my brain hurt moments, because that's just so completely random that I just had to wonder... "was it really him?" because who the heck would write that???

Sooo would it be a spoiler to mention that there's now going to be a third companion for next season, and who it is?

wonder what she thought of RTDs version? (thats a little passive aggressive on my part, oh well!)

Nevertheless, what she helped create will outlive her and continue to entertain adults and children.(Not a bad accomplishment!)

Although kinda sad in a way too. I think Who now focusses way too much on being "cutesy" and having cute "sexy" dialogue. Both peoples statements about never having an older Doctor in the future are kinda sad. I love Pertwee, Hartnell and co. And much of their age made some of the stories more serious and less about the now yearly tradition of the Doctor falling in love. I don't think the Doctor HAS to relate to everyone constantly, hes an alien.
