This kind of reminds me of ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, which was adapted into LIVE.DIE.REPEAT/EDGE OF TOMORROW.
It also reminds me of the T.V. series SEVEN DAYS, which was about a top secret US time travel program that developed a machine that could send one person back in time seven days; the program was used to hopefully avert disastrous events
