Nabbed the last one of these my theater today. Limited edition, Mondo-design Crimson Peak pint glass, served with Crimson Peak Ale - a hibiscus flower-infused Crimson-colored beer. Really a very unique tasting beer, which was awesome, I could have had a LOT more had they not been pretty dang pricey.

I'm just going to copy and paste what I posted on Facebook.Eventually about 7-8 other people showed up so the theater wasn't dead. I really enjoyed the film. The cinematography, costuming, set design and sound design were all stupid good. The story was predictable but I still found it entertaining I'd give it a solid 3.5/5 stars. I'd definitely consider owning it just to reference the pretty images.

Just got back from my second viewing. Enjoyed it even more the second time, which is par for the course for GDT's film in my case.

Some reviews singled out Mia Wasikowska as the weak point in the main cast, but I have to disagree. Apparently, Emma Stone was originally going to play the part, but she dropped out, and despite her general awesomeness I'm glad: Mia suits the character's combination of vulnerability, naiveté, bookishness, and inner strength in a way I'm not sure the more spiky Emma Stone could.

Mia Wasikowska is too mousy and unemotional for my personal tastes. I would have preferred Emma Stone, but that's just me not really liking Mia Wasikowska much.

Saw it a couple of days ago. Well made, well crafted film. When I saw the trailer for this over the summer, I thought shades of "The Haunting" 1999, and I was not ready to go through that again!

Even though this was mainly a gothic melodrama, it had its share of eeriness as well. Actually, I could not help to feel a little bit of "Night Gallery" influence on this movie (a show which Del Toro greatly enjoyed). It was almost like watching a episode of that T.V. show, except on a much grander scale and a lot more violence. Heck, that creepy portrait of Mother Sharpe, could have been the movie's intro, with Del Toro doing Rod Serling and introducing us to the story.

^ Another highlight is when she reacts to her father's death. She elicited a sniffle or two from me.

I went to see it today, out of curiosity. Honestly, I don't think this is the sort of film I typically enjoy - but Crimson Peak is nevertheless a very well put-together movie. I enjoyed all of the actors, the soundtrack was solid, and I positively loved the color schemes and set pieces. The plot is a bit predictable, but that doesn't hinder the film at all, because one feels the movie with such tension and dread that one can even start second-guessing one's predictions.
I don't think I'll ever need to see this film again, but it was worth seeing in the theater. I suspect those who are fond of classic horror/thriller/mystery films will appreciate it far more than I did. I give it a solid B rating.
