The original Avenger, Patrick Macnee has passed on.

While he had plenty of genre roles over the years, he was best known as the worlds best dressed gentleman spy, John Steed in the 1961-69 scifi-ish spy series The Avengers. He died of natural causes at the age of 93 at his home in California.

As a kid I loved The Avengers and John Steed was the epitome of cool for me. It wasn't until I was older that I started to appreciate the qualities of Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel. Patrick Macnee was another class act in the same vein as Christopher Lee and his loss is another childhood icon gone.

He was the one sympathetic werewolf in "The Howling", though we never saw him transform.

RIP :(
