Why do I keep think of Onimusha whenever I see something on this movie and not 47 Ronin?

SciFi Japan has detailed production notes and high-res photos from 47 RONIN, Universal Pictures’ fantasy adventure starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada (RING, THE LAST SAMURAI), Tadanobu Asano (ICHI THE KILLER), Rinko Kikuchi (PACIFIC RIM) and Ko Shibasaki (BATTLE ROYALE). The film opens this week in Japan and on December 19th in North America.

haven't seen too many good reviews for this...even the good reviews basically say it's a disappointing film that never lives up to its potential.

I was hoping that a film with samurai and monsters would be at least enjoyable fluff, but from the sounds of it it fails at even that.

you really don't need to spend $200 million on anything...i'd sya there is the occasional exception to that, but honestly, how many $200 million movies have looked 10 times better than District 9 or two times better than Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

I think the only time you really need super high budgets is when you are changing everything in the world like with High Fantasy or Scifi. If its not either of those then you need to spend more time planning during pre-production.

I just watched this. Good lord. This movie has no pulse. It's as dull a mishmash of generic fantasy imagery, stop/start action scenes, and cliche character melodrama as you could possibly imagine and it's SO deathly serious about it all. It's under 1 hour and 50 minutes before the credits start rolling but it's so plodding it feels like it's an hour longer.

I thought the first half hour was surprisingly good, given all the bad things I'd heard....then it just implodes on itself.
