FINALLY! A theater locally got this. The ladyfriend has classes all weekend, but we'll be going to see this sometime next week.

This movie was great. Not sure it's in my top 2 or 3 for the year, and I still like Shaun of the Dead best but I really found it refreshing to see a scifi film where the climax isn't just a huge action set piece. Yeah there's the flameball, but the climax of this movie is an argument, and a really well-written one. I also think the ending is great: Gary can't make up for the mistakes he made with his friends the first time out (two of them are dead and one of them is now better off without him) but he can try to take some responsibility for these new friends and stick with them instead of constantly running away. And ordering 5 waters was just an awesome callback to the discussion about how REAL badasses order water in a room full of brutes.

I wasn't sure if I'd like it because I've been finding myself increasingly at odds with the Edgar Wright fans of our little nerd family (I ffind Hot Fuzz a little dull and did not like Attack the Block) but it totally won me over.
Gills.
