"GIANT MONSTERS ATTACK HAWAII" !!

Postby AVERY GUERRA » Wed May 05, 2010 7:29 pm

This is a new short film that will be made with realistic puppets and man-in-suit fx techniques, inspired by oldschool daikaiju flicks and is set for a 2011 date. Check out our article for the exclusive first look at the film including very early concept artwork and details at "Undead Backbrain":

It's a natural, monster-wise. :D

The only city that would look spectacular being destroyed is Honolulu, but it's a big city and would look real good blowing up.... and the rest of the scenery otherwise is awesome (hell, look at LOST, among tons of others...)

Being almost literally in the center of the Pacific Ocean, its seismic/volcanic nature and its superstitions and folklore are all interesting starting points. Some of Hawaii's history is pretty horrific and violent, too.

And the Nightmarcher folklore would be great in a non-kaiju Hawaii thriller.

Even taking some of the images of tiki gods and tweaking them a bit this way or that way could produce some kool kaiju kreatures.

A bit on the kampy side, no doubt :?

Add to that some volcanic action, some sea monsters like giant octopi and/or jellyfish, and....

edit... Sorry, I sound like a rep from the Hawaii Tourist Bureau.

NOTE:
If anyone is planning or knows of a daikaiju film event or other film festival they'd like to see this film at or they would like to show it at then please contact me via p.m. Thanks.

I sent the organizers of "G-FEST" a batch of really awesome short daikaiju/giant monster flicks their way to consider for screening during the fest and the first to be announced is this extremely fun daikaiju short directed by my pal Dane Neves ; "GIANT MONSTERS ATTACK HAWAII"!!!! It will play alongside a very cool line-up of great daikaiju films and shorts including a tribute to the late great Ray Harryhausen with "Twenty Million Miles To Earth" and a special midnight screening of "Pacific Rim"!! These shorts will play as part of the "G-Fest In-House Channel' and the features will be part of their film festival line-up:

To date it has played these fests:

Consolidated Theaters Hana Hou Picture Show (November 2011)
Anchorage International Film Festival (December 2011)
Waimea Film Festival (January 2012)
Turtle Bay Filmmaker's Showcase (April 2012)
Big Island Film Festival (May 2012)
California International Animation Festival (June 2012)
The B Movie Celebration (September 2012)
Ohina Short Film Showcase (September 2012)
Unreal Film Festival (November 2012)
15 Minutes of Fame (November 2012)
RAW Honolulu presents MARVEL (April 2013)

Also:

It also won "Best Family Film" at the 2012 Honolulu Film Awards and
was "Official Finalist Award" at the 2012 Las Vegas Film Festival.
