Vanishing On 7th Street

I'm not sure if there is already a post started about this film or not. I looked back and didn't see any.

But anyway, I Netflixed this over the weekend and found it pretty creepy. It's about some people who suddenly find themselves the only ones left after some dark shadows take everyone else. They find themselves trying to stay within lighted areas to keep the darkness away. The shadows and darkness, with it's whispering voices, were effective and creepy as hell. The acting was ok. I found some of the actors' performances a bit annoying at first, but then realized that it was a realistic depiction of how illogical people would react in such circumstances. The ridiculous paranoia and bickering of the few survivors is a sadly accurate depiction of how lame humans can be.

I found the ending to be a bit hokey and felt it really didn't work with the rest of the film, which was mostly dark and brooding. But otherwise a decent horror film that favors atmosphere over special fx and gore.

I'm a big fan of Anderson's work, but after hearing almost universally bad things about this, I still haven't given it a watch. I'm sure I will at some point.

LOL! Man approaching age 40 must really be messing with my memory, because I posted in the original thread about this movie and completely forgot!
