Timur (Night/Day Watch and Wanted) Bekmambetov's latest movie produced in Russia is Black Lightning. About an experimental flying car (1951 black Volga) that a hapless Moscow youth winds up using to fight crime and eventually combat a nasty villain. It reminds me a bit of Takashi Yamazaki's The Returner(2002) as it unabashedly borrows heavily from lots of other superhero and scifi movies to piece it together (especially Spider Man), but on the whole turns out to be quite entertaining.
Todd Brown's review pretty much sums up my thoughts on it as well. It's making the film fest rounds right now such as Toronto's Fantasia.
This of course is already in talks of being remade for U.S. consumption, but I'm guessing it'll get a DVD release here sometime in the future.
