I'd agree with many of the films already mentioned, and I would also add The Amazing Colossal Man and the Monolith Monsters, and I must also admit a sneaking liking for Corman's Attack of the Crab Monsters.

This Island Earth. Good stuff. It does makes me wonder why it was chosen as the subject for Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie, though, since I certainly wouldn't call it "bad". And a lot of This Island Earth's music resurfaced in some other Universal movies - The Revenge of the Creature, for instance.
