The Odako is a legend. The REAL king of the Monsters. He has appeared in more films then Titanosaurus, Megalon, Hedorah etc.
Tsuburaya would know it would be sacrilegious to eat him. That's why I don't believe that story.

Octopus, that was cute when it first started, but enough's enough. Let it go. Tsuburaya ate the octopus. Accept it... then get on with your life.
