Manda was introduced in the 1963 Toho movie ATRAGON (Kaitei Gunkan) so check out info on that movie to learn more about him.

I'm guessing you've seen Destroy All Monsters and that's been your exposure to Manda? :) Manda is awesome...too bad he was only in a few scenes like you said. You can see the movie, Atragon, for Manda's original appearence...though it's just as brief as in Destroy All Monsters! Sadly. You'll also notice some differences in the prop used for Manda...originally it had a crest of horns on it's head like and asian dragon in Atragon. Anyways...the movie your looking for is Atragon, a good Sci Fi film in it's own right, but not much of a monster movie.

Does anyone know if he will be re-vamped for GFW ? I was going to get a tattoo of Manda.. but only us G-heads would've known who he was. I didn't want anyone to think it was some kinda Aztec serpent.

I really liked the treatment of Asian dragon form that was shown in "Spirited Away." If Manda was given that kind of flying ability he'd climb several places in the popularity polls just by default.

I saw a picture of a Manda figure that had been cast from jade green vinyl. It was a really nice shade and looked almost like real jade. I think it was from Marmit, but I don't recall. Does anyone know what it was and perhaps whether it's still available?
Does anyone else listen to Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" and think of "Save the Earth?"

Man I have got to get my hands on Atragon.
Anyway Manda also appears in a recent manga written about ninja's called naruto. He is the evil Orochimaru's summonanable kaiju. ANd he's pretty nasty in that manga too. He even back talks his master and threatens to kill him repeatedly. So far he's probably the strongest of the creatures that have appeared in the serieswith the possible exception of the demon that lays dormant in the main character. The series is also an anime now, and though Manda appears breifly in the new intro, he hasnt shown up in the anime yet, but should in the next 10-15 episodes I'd say.
If anyone wants more info or pics or something just pm me.
He really doesnt look much like his toho counterpart however, hes merely a gimongous snake,a nd the most powerful of all the snakes.
Thank You Universal for your Generosity! and SFJ for running these contests!
