Garuda: The Movie - Can we call it Thaikaiju?

Looking like something of a cross between YONGGARY, ALIENS, and THE MATRIX, Thailand is about to unveil its very first giant monster movie. GARUDA: THE MOVIE takes place during the underground subway expansion in present day Bangkok where the ancient mythical half-man, half-bird called Garuda is awakened. You can check out the movie’s official website but be warned because the majority of it is not in English. However, there is a pretty nifty trailer for the movie online although it wasn’t big enough to determine just how good (or bad) the CGI effects used for the monster are. Also, it is kinda weird hearing music from BLADE in a foreign monster movie trailer. According to the guy that sent in the notice about the film to Ain’t It Cool News, the movie has already causes a bit controversy in Thailand as the Garuda is viewed as a holy animal and some are not happy about it being portrayed as a rampaging monster. Apparently the Thai title of the film has been changed because of the uproar although you wouldn’t know that from the website. If you’ve ever wanted to see Bangkok get stomped by a giant demonic looking man-bird then this looks like a movie to keep an eye out for.

You beat me to it...I was going to post about this after reading about on on Aint it cool news. Looks very cool. Hopefully the CGI will be better than Yongary (which was unbelievably bad, but in a sort of fun way). Too bad the entire site is in site (unless there was an option to read it in English that I missed).

It looks pretty good. The effects seem much better then Yongary. The bird reminds me of Q-the Winged Serpent. I think this has a far chance to succed (barring any fanatics stopping the picture). I wonder if any western studios will pick it up. Then again Ong Bak hasn't had a US distributor yet.

Darn, I thought someone was making a movie about the failed SX-II sucessor from Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 1993.

On a side note, I wonder if that name was purposely taken from this mythical creature?

Since you asked nicely, here's a link to the trailer. Warning though: you don't see very much and what little you do see of the monster is rather blurry.

And here's one more image!

Wow, that looks really cool! Kinda makes me wish for a Gargoyles remake....(the made for T.V. movie, not the Disney 'toon.)

 I'm noticing a trend here...point to be made? Never hire "Devilin" to remake anything. He'll undoubtably rape it.
