https://m.facebook.com/august.ragone/po ... 1560543185A co-production between Toei and Shochiku, this is a new, original, large-scale kaiju movie! How long has it been since we had one of those? August describes it as "serio-comic," so I guess in America we'd label it a "dramedy?" The plot concerns the corpse-disposal/clean-up after a kaiju atrack.

It'll be interesting to have a non-Godzilla Japanese kaiju movie that's not a zero-budget indie spoof! I mean, it might still be a bit of a spoof, but it seems like this is aiming for something a bit more. It's intetesting for that alone!

This movie ended up being released in Japanese theaters on February 4 of this year under the title 'Giant Monster Cleanup' (大怪獣のあとしまつ, Daikaiju no Atoshimatsu), although 'What to Do with the Dead Kaiju?' seems to be the official English-language title.
They started shooting it in March 2020 and then had to stop later that month due to the pandemic, and they didn't resume filming until January 2021. Joe Odagiri (the lead from Kamen Rider Kuuga) plays a bomb disposal expert! Rinko Kikuchi also has a role, probably a cameo.
The official website has the trailer: https://www.daikaijyu-atoshimatsu.jp/
The Wikizilla article has the poster and more info: https://wikizilla.org/wiki/What_to_Do_with_the_Dead_Kaiju%3F
Here's hoping this can get released in the West.

Hope Arrow or Well Go or Shudder picks it up! It seems reactions were lukewarm, but it's such an interesting take on the genre, and it's the first major studio Japanese kaiju film that isn't part of a pre-existing franchise in... I don't know how long!
