So blown away that RiffTrax cleared the rights to do this (I assume it's cause Sony owns the film outright in the U.S.). I hope they do a good job with it.

I didn't know at first - this is one of my all-time favorite films, after all - but Kevin putting emphasis on it being a 'beautiful widescreen print!' endeared me to it.

Yeah learning about this on the live show Tuesday night, I really want to go...But of course like most RT live events it is on a Thursday

. So glad the MST3K reunion was on a Tuesday. If they do an encore on any day besides a Thursday, I am there. I thought for a minute if it would be the dub or original with subs...but of course the riffs would come much easier from the dub even though the dub is not terrible

Interesting. I know Sony's had a lovely DCP of this for a while cause my local Alamo screened it with subs the summer pacific rim came out. If this is a "new" print (or more likely, DCP) I wonder what's different? I know the film underwent what sounds like a pretty nice restoration (along with the H-man and Battle in Outer Space) several years ago which was then used to produce the video masters for that icons of scifi dvd set, as well as the Mothra DCP that I saw.

Should've been
Rebirth of Mothra
I'm pretty shocked that RiffTrax could get a big-name Toho film like this one. I hope I can make it!

^Mothra's a special case, as Sony owns it outright in the US (along with Battle in Outer Space and H-Man). Maybe they could do King Kong vs. Godzilla, as they'd only need Universal's OK for that.

Looks like I'm not going. Per their site, "Currently, RiffTrax Live: Mothra is not scheduled to be shown in Canada."

Well the riffing was funny but my theater had the sound system cranked up so loud it was giving me a headache. So it was a little bit of mixed bag. I plan on catching the the encore show.

I thought it was a weaker outing, actually. The fact that the movie itself is good meant that they didn't really have too many things to hang jokes on besides the obvious. The best lines were either absurdities or simply commenting on the plot (like Mike saying that if he was Nelson's lawyer he'd request putting a paper bag over Nelson's head). The biggest elephant in the room, the obvious thing that jumps out to be made fun of, to me is the phony Japanese accents in the dubbing... but how do you harp on that without making jokes that could be taken for racist?
- ah, except for when the stereotypical phrase "ah, so" is actually used in the dubbing and Kevin cracks up. That was pretty great.

Well, that was fun. Before the main feature, we had a goofy old short called "Soapy, the Germ Fighter", which may have actually made me laugh harder than the main film. That said, most of the jokes for Mothra were pretty good. There were a couple of toy car jokes, and a lot of jabs at the dialogue (that dub, tho), but most of it was in very good humor. I really didn't need that comparison of the cocoon to... Um... "mothballs", though.
Seeing Mothra on the big screen was a treat by itself. The bluescreen effects were pretty obvious (and the group behind me couldn't help laughing at a couple of the miniature still shots), but oh, man, those city sets and Mothra herself! The larva suit looked fittingly enormous.
Getting my extra goodies online now. It was a fun night.

Oh god, Mothra's Rifftrax tonight was absolutely hysterical. A lot of fantastic jokes like, "Gamera admits that being the friend of children was a lie," "We know you're rebuilding from the last attacks by Godzilla, Gamera, Rodan, and Megalon," and "Now he knows what it feels like to be the only midly attractive girl at a science fiction convention." The pre-show short about a naked man wearing a soap costume was creepily hilarious too.

Personally, I would have said that Mothra was moving on from Newkirk City to LeBeauville and General Burkhalteropolis.
Frankly, I didn't think it was Mike, Kevin & Bill's strongest outing, and there was a bit of a lull in the middle. Still, a solid B.
"Do you know how much Woody Allen will pay for you?"
"TUSK!"

Good to hear some positive feedback, I had little doubt this would be hilarious. I am highly anticipating attending the encore next Tuesday as I could not attend last night.
