I'm watching the AIP dub of this for the first time.
I reaaally adore this film.
I really enjoy Akira Kubo in this.
I also LOVE Kenji Sahara as Obata. (Well..my favorite Sahara roles are when he played the villain)
Tsuchiya is interesting as a good guy who ISN'T associated with the alien force.
The score is interesting and its cool to hear Ifukube do something that really, to me, sounds
very different from what he had done prior.

Oh, and the monsters (which matter more than any of that other dumb stuff : D) are great.
They're all really distinct and while I don't love Gezora as much as the Kamoeba and Ganime suits,
its still such a distinctive design that this trio are more than welcomed additions to the Toho Kaiju roster.

NOW GO ON, EVERYONE SING YOUR PRAISES OF YOG/SPACE AMOEBA

Not a great film by any means, but its still great fun. Kenji Sahara is especially great in this.

The Yog monsters are some of my favorite kaiju of the 70s, especially Gezora, despite his goofiness.

Its a shame that this movie was saddled tiny budget and a crew with such low morale (Tsuburaya's death took the wind out of everybody's sails) and had a part in Honda leaving the movie biz for a while, but I like it anyway.

Question: does the AIP dub improve the movie for any of you, or would you say it's not such a big deal? I've watched Yog once with the Japanese audio and wasn't terribly impressed. The monsters are okay, if uneven - Gezora has personality but doesn't look convincing, while Kameba and Ganimes look convincing without having a lot of character. Didn't find much to love in the rest of the movie. These were my initial impressions, at least; I'm sure I'll revisit Yog at some point. Maybe it gets better with repeated viewing.

The AIP dub doesn't really improve it. It improves my choice of dubs.

I kind of think the work of Tsuchiya, Kubo, and Sahara is evident in the Japanese version. Especially Sahara. But then again, I didn't really have to re-watch Yog a number of times to start loving it. So maybe it just clicks with me? *shrug*

I watched this today (The Japanese cut), and while entertaining, it's a film with flaws. The pacing suffers, and portions of the dialogue don't sound natural. The acting is a mixed bag, too, but the monsters are a high point. It's also interesting to see the clever ways the humans face and defeat the monsters despite having limited resources.

The english dubbing of this movie left a lot to be desired also.

The dub on the Media Blasters DVD is the Hong Kong-produced international dub. The other dub was produced specifically for the American version and was dubbed by Titan (Titra) Productions.

I noticed the production credit for Salvatore Billitteri. I know that name from the US TV series Johnny Sokko and His Giant Robot (which I just recently upgraded from my Orion VHS tapes to the DVD version). Check out IMBD for references to his work on a few more of our favorite kaiju flicks, mostly regarding dubbing and sound production.

Eli Haviv also worked on multiple dubbed versions for Titan, often with Emil Haviv. (His brother?)

As editor: THE MAGIC SERPENT, RETURN OF GIANT MAJIN, DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, DESTROY ALL PLANETS, ATTACK OF THE MONSTERS, GAMERA VS. MONSTER X, GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER

This is the only Titan credit I have for Helen Gary. Perhaps she directed the voice actors to drop the fake Japanese accents.
