I remember when the movie was announced they were saying it was going to be CG heavy.

I wonder what kind of dialogue took place place between the execs and Higuchi to do otherwise. Maybe the car commercial was the demo?

OMG....This is just too much for my brain to handle....Asylum obviously know who their target audience is for this series...We get our first look at the new giant rival Kolossus in "MEGA SHARK VS. KOLOSSUS" from a Japanese site....and boy how fitting a place to premiere it as in Japan the film's title is "Mega Shark vs. Great Titan" and....well you look for yourselves damnit!!:

I only ever watched the first ep of the anime. I decided it wasn't any better an experience than the manga, so I kind of just stuck with that.

Am I the only one that thinks the Titans are looking kind of on the fake side? I feel like the CG enhancements and the green screen work are VERY noticeable.

Can't tell if MoW is being serious or not.

I can't honestly see any bad green screening... It looks fairly decent to me...

I feel this is the only way to bring giant humanoids to life... by filming actual humanoids...

Oh I'm serious. I don't have a problem with the LOOK of the titans per say, as I think suits and makeup effects are the way to do it, but the CG enhancements on them are shoddy, making it look more cartoony than it should. Even Norman England, who worked on the set for a few days and is friends with the film makers said he felt it had a cartoony feel, which I agree with. That doesn't even necessarily need to be a bad thing though. Maybe that's just how stylized the movie will be.

The Titans are definitely hard to do practical and in live action, but the CG masking on them just feel a little too obvious for my tastes. The Colossal Titan puppet itself is GREAT, but when you put all the cartoon smoke around it, I just don't feel like the CG is up to snuff.

We'll see how the final film looks though.

It doesn't necessarily look completely realistic but in no way does it look bad. I quite like the stylized look of it all.

And, yeah, I'm still completely stoked for this movie.

Just at a quick glance I noticed a Titan's exploding leg and how it was ultra bloody.

Does Japan typically not "PG-13" things up for when they make big productions? If so kudos to them.

*edit* Upon further review at home on a better monitor the only thing that stuck out was during the quick snippet of all the titans charging forward they moved sort of whispy/ghostly which seems a little off.

Not enough footage though to make an accurate decision.

Here I decided to make some gifs from this new trailer. Some of them I slowed down for a better look.



The only thing I noticed in this next gif is they do walk in a dreamy slowmo movement.



This next gif is important because it goes back to MoW's comments about obvious green screening. If you look closely between the Titan's hand the persons body you will see some forced shadows to cover up the transition between the two elements. So if that is as bad as it gets I won't complain too much. Again, 2 seconds of film...



Some colossal titan action. He does give off quite a bit of steam since Titans are extremely hot creatures (literally)

Btw I'm not picking a fight here about whether the visuals stink or not. I just haven't seen anything that looks too off yet. Also when you say the actors (titans) are CG enhanced... how do you mean? What part of the Titans are enhanced by CGI? Why wouldn't they just film them in front of a green screen and do some post editing? I'm confused on that part.

Sinking of Japan stunk a big one. Snooze city. Boring effects.

I never saw Loreli or whatever.

I'm kind of impressed at the moment with what I am seeing but I need more than 2 second cuts to make a decision. I think I have a little bias towards the movie because the task for an American studio would be pretty daunting and they would definitely be all CG Titans so I applaud Toho/Higuchi's decision to use practical effects when I thought they were going to do terrible Japanese CG.

When it comes to Godzilla I hope he doesn't cover Godzilla in smoke. lol.
