I was talking with an old friend of mine who happens to be a fellow japanese monster fan. We were discussing how great the original Rodan was and how great it would be to see Rodan getting the spotlight in an all new film. Am I the only one who thinks this would be a great idea and that Godzilla has kind of hogged the spotlight? Back in the 50's, Toho made quite a few kaiju films without Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Varan. It seems to me that Toho is afraid to do a kaiju film without either Godzilla or Mothra and I think it's a shame.

Imagine what Kaneko, or better yet-Tezuka, could do with Rodan.

Rodan and Anguiras both appeared in Godzilla films besides Destroy All Monsters. Rodan even appeared in a Hesei film, although that was a decade ago. My, how time does fly...

The original Rodan had a serious tone and treated the monsters as living things to be pitied as much as feared. If a remake were made, it should have those same assets. It should also make the Rodans' wings move convincingly.

Great idea but Toho isn't always open to this principle.

I would love to see Toho expand it's array of current kaiju movies to include solo films of Rodan and others.

Well Toho did try making Godzilla-less movies, but the result was the Mothra trilogy, which was hit or miss with the majority of kaiju fans. But like Buckaroobwana said, I guess Toho won't make movies without either G or Mothra. Too bad. They should try aqcuiring the rights to Gappa and Guilala and give us that Gappa vs. Guilala flick that never was! Now that would be different!
