This is a brand new kaiju film from the production company behind "Gehara" NHK/BS Hi-Vi/Saga-Fc.. It's a 25 minute short set to premiere on December 10th. on the channel NHK. Not much is known about the film or it's titular kaiju as the monster's appearance has been kept under wraps so far. However, for what is known- including a few exclusive details about the creature's design and how it will be brought to life in the film plus a big batch of behind-the-scenes pics, promo art, the English translated synopsis and more check out our article at "Undead Backbrain":[NOTE: The images of the plush toy are not the creature in the film but only a prop used in set pics to suggest the creature]:

This should be cool. They handled Gehara really well. Would of been nice to see a sequel to that short film, but this is fine by me!
If this is how we have to get Kaiju film from Japan for now, then so be it!

Nice find Avery! Nice to find Tetsu Watanabe's (Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla X Mechagodzilla) face among the cast.
Anything associated with 'G' and 'Gehara' is amazing news in my book! Too bad their skipping the suit and going CG this round however.

Thanks Flame! We're just hoping that the kaiju is in fact giant-sized. I would think so. Also; can't wait till a trailer or atleast a tv spot appears which should be any day. If I find one I'll definitely share it. I'm just glad to see that the genre is not totally dead.

Even though the plush toy isn't what the monster looks like exactly, I'm pretty sure that IS the monster. You know what I mean? That fish and the monster look very similar... just put them together, and I think you can get a rough idea on what the monster will look like.
I hope NHK will do what they did with 'Gehara' and release on blu ray, with subs!
Oh, and I hope the monsters appearance is more that 30 secs or something.... lol. Gehara amount of time would be nice.

I'm perfectly happy with the Gehara blu ray, and will definately get the blu of this as well... just hopefully the kaiju is in it for 5-10 minutes.
If it somehow gets released over here on the same disc with Gehara, I'd get it to support it, and probably just give it to someone as a gift as I'll already have the blu rays.

I didn't realize this beforehand, but I was out drinking the other night with Taguchi, who directed Gehara, and he said he handled the FXs on this short film. He gave me a chirashi, which is somewhere in my room. He probably told me more about it, but I was too drunk to really remember all the details.

Check out our new blurb with the first actual image of the daikaiju plus lots of cool early concept artwork of the monster, new details about it's origin and how it is brought into the 'reality' in the film, and new images from the film at "Undead Brainspasm":

Just watched it. It's not a kaiju film at all, but a "heartwarming drama" about a guy who wants to make a kaiju movie and shine a spotlight on his small hometown in Saga, while trying to win over his curmudgeonly father who thinks it's all a colossal waste of time.
Onscreen kaiju time (other than the little doll used to help scout shooting locations around Saga): Absolute Zero. No moving images from the "movie" are ever shown. No monster, no effects shots, nothing. Huge disappointment there.
You do get to see a few "stills" from the "movie" while the end credits are running (including the one linked in Avery's post above showing the back of the creature as it walks back to the sea), but they are not very impressive...they show the creature (maybe a suit? CG? Can't tell.) seemingly photoshopped onto location shots (or just shot in-camera at a beach, like the previously mentioned shot...which seemed to be an actual suit).
So, if you're only interested in this to see some kaiju action, forget about it; there is none. Zip. Nada. This is most definitely not a kaiju film.
But if you want to see a nice little drama that tugs on the heartstrings, or see a bit of a coastal fishing town in Saga, then here's your short film!
